It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of James S Mee (known as Mr Mee / Jim).
Mr Mee passed away on Thursday 2 February 2023. Until his retirement in 2015, he had been a valued member of our local community as a Barrister and Solicitor, Arbitrator and Mediator and was a mentor and friend to many.
Our firm’s history has been heavily influenced by his pragmatic open advocacy style. In 2014 when the firm transitioned from James S Mee to Mee & Henry Law Limited, he challenged me to “do no harm”, that I had to remember has solicitors we can cause immense harm to the personal relationships of our clients through our actions, whether it be by delaying a response or by being aggressive in our letter writing approach or suffering from work induced alienation syndrome, and forgetting our clients are people with feelings. I remain mindful of his challenge in all aspects of our operations and encourage you to do the same as you remember Him in your thoughts.
Our conveyancing practice was formed on the back of his motivation to ensure that everyday individuals could get reliable, cost effective and efficient services to enable them to buy or sell property in Southland. His friendly manner put people at ease, and his record of knowledge and experience in the law meant that he was well placed to deal with the common and not so common issues that arose out of the conveyancing process.
We appreciate and acknowledge the support of the local law society and real estate community, some of whom have been regularly visiting and phoning Jim in recent years.
He was a valued member of our workplace and our community and will be dearly missed. Please keep Jim’s family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time.
Jim’s funeral will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday 8 February 2023 at the Invercargill Racecourse.
Mee & Henry Law Limited will be closed for the day of the funeral. We will not be available for phone calls or emails. We will be in contact with firms for any conveyancing or time pressured matters that need to be attended to on or around this date to make suitable arrangements.
